About PEO And Professional Employer Organization With PML
P.M.L and its members have been helping businesses since 1985.
Written and permissions by Marc S. Miller of Marc S. Miller Associates excerpted from Benefits & Compensation Solutions
Your company enters into an agreement with the PEO to
establish a three-way relationship between you, your
employees and the PEO. You and the PEO become co employers,
instead of the traditional employer
company/employee relationship.
This allows the PEO to provide your company with a full
range of services and to transfer or share many employer
liabilities. It allows you to systematically and strategically
enhance the total quality of your organization, which results
in greater efficiency and productivity.
The PEO takes responsibility for HR administration and
compliance, for which it charges a service fee. Your
employees continue to work at your company location and
you continue to exercise control over your business.
As co-employers with their client companies, PEOs
contractually assume substantial employer rights,
responsibilities and risk through the establishment and
maintenance of an employer relationship with the workers
assigned to its clients.

What does a PEO do for your business?
Provides experienced professionals in HR, benefits,
payroll and risk management.
Assumes certain employment related liabilities.
Delivers professional assistance with compliance (payroll,
OSHA, EEOC).
Provides secure Internet access to payroll, benefits and
personnel data.
Provides access to professional HR guidance and
materials.
Manages claims.
Supplies written employee handbooks, policies,
procedures and practices.
Delivers access to better benefit programs.
What does a PEO do for your employees?
Provides access to comprehensive benefits often
previously unavailable—401(k), Section 125 plan,
comprehensive insurance benefits, Flexible Spending
Plan.
Delivers a payroll.
Provides professional assistance with employment-related
issues.
Supplies employee handbooks, policies, procedures and
practices.
Offers up-to-date information on labor regulations,
workers’ rights and worksite safety.
Processes benefits claims
Enables employees who move from one PEO client to
another to avoid loss of eligibility for benefits.
Provides improved access to payroll information, benefits,
personnel data, vacation and sick time accrual, and
specialized reports.
May offer credit union membership and banking
privileges.
In terms of government regulations, a PEO:
Consolidates several companies’ employment tax filings
into one.
Provides more professional preparation and reporting.
Accelerates collection of taxes.
Allows government agencies to reach businesses through
a single-employer entity.
